Amazon Freezes Operations with Cargo Carrier After Fatal Miami Crash
Amazon has suspended its operations with cargo carrier 21 Air LLC after a fatal crash at Miami International Airport. The incident occurred on September 6, when an Amazon cargo plane, a Boeing Co. 767 freighter operated by 21 Air, ran off the tarmac and careered into two vehicles, killing five people on the ground.
According to details from the cockpit audio released by the US National Transportation Safety Board, one of the pilots had called for the landing to be aborted after the jet touched down with too much speed. The crash has raised concerns about safety procedures and training within 21 Air.
In a statement, 21 Air said it's 'confident in our safety policies, procedures and training.' However, Amazon announced that it will continue working with investigators to determine the cause of the crash and support those affected by it. The company has suspended its operations with 21 Air pending further review.
