Amazon Gets Green Light to Destroy Expired Food Stock Under FDA Supervision
The Bombay High Court has granted permission to Amazon Retail India to prepare an inventory of expired food products at its Bhiwandi warehouse and destroy them under the supervision of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
This order was given on Monday, August 10, 2026, as a temporary arrangement until the court hears Amazon's petition on merits. The bench also directed Amazon to hand over the inventory within a day for verification by the FDA officer.
The court suggested this arrangement after criticizing the FDA's approach of suspending and cancelling Amazon's food licence without following due procedure. The FDA had alleged that expired food products meant for disposal were being sent into the retail market, which Amazon denied and challenged.
