Amazon Greenlights U.S. Version of Global Comedy Format LOL: Last One Laughing
Amazon has greenlit a U.S. version of 'LOL: Last One Laughing', the global comedy format that originated from the Japanese series 'Documental'. The format, which has already been remade in over 25 territories, including Canada and the UK, throws together top comedians and comedic actors for six hours with one simple mandate: try not to laugh.
The U.S. version will be produced by Fulwell Entertainment, which is behind Hulu's 'The Kardashians' and Fox's 'World Cup After Hours with James Corden'. Eric Pankowski, exec producer of 'Carpool Karaoke', will serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside Ben Winston, who is showrunner of 'The Grammys', and Emma Conway.
Jenn Levy, Head of Nonfiction Series at Amazon MGM Studios, said in May that the No. 1 question she's been asked since taking the job was when there would be a U.S. version of 'LOL: Last One Laughing'. She called the show one of those rare series that transcends language and culture.
