Amazon Halts Operations with Contractor After Cargo Flight Crash
Amazon has suspended its operations with North Carolina-based contractor 21 Air after a cargo flight operated by the company crash-landed at Miami International Airport last week. Five people on the ground were killed and five others injured in the incident, which occurred when a Boeing 767 operated for Amazon by 21 Air overran the runway and hit two vehicles.
The pilots of the plane, who were briefly hospitalized before being released, are not expected to face charges in connection with the crash. However, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is still investigating the incident and has released preliminary transcripts from the aircraft's cockpit voice recorder, which show that one pilot warned the other that they were coming in too fast.
The NTSB has also obtained readings from the flight data recorder, which suggest that the pilots were attempting a go-around before going off the runway. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said in a statement that the company will continue to support the investigation and those affected by the incident.
