Amazon Hikes Prices on Core Products Amid Memory and Storage Chip Shortage
Amazon recently raised prices on several of its core products, including Echos, Kindles, and Fire TVs. The price hikes range from 14% to 60%, with the Echo Dot (5th gen) experiencing a particularly significant increase, jumping from $49.99 to $79.99.
The price increases are attributed to the rising costs of memory and storage chips, which have been driven up by AI companies grabbing large quantities for their systems and data centers, leaving limited supplies for consumer electronics manufacturers.
Amazon's senior communications manager, Kristy Schmidt, stated that the company had absorbed these increased costs for as long as possible before adjusting prices across its product lines. The goal remains to offer great products at accessible prices, a commitment that has not changed.
