Amazon Introduces Alexa Tool to Verify Suspicious Messages
Amazon has introduced a new tool to help customers verify suspicious messages claiming to be from Amazon. The feature, called Alexa for Shopping, uses artificial intelligence to check whether an email, text, or phone call actually came from the company.
According to Amazon, about 360,000 customers contact customer service every year asking whether a message is real. With this new tool, users can simply ask Alexa for Shopping if a message was sent by Amazon. The AI assistant will then check the information against Amazon's records and provide a response.
Amazon's technology looks at various details such as sender, message content, timing, and formatting to verify whether a communication is legitimate. If it finds a match, Alexa for Shopping will confirm that the message came from Amazon. However, if there is no match, the tool may advise users to check their orders directly in the app or contact Amazon through official support channels.
The new feature also allows customers to submit suspicious messages to Amazon's customer protection and enforcement team, which can help identify developing scam campaigns and bad actors impersonating the company.
