Amazon Invests Big in Colorado, Boosting Local Economy
Amazon's investment in Colorado exceeds $20 billion, with an additional $20 billion contributed to the state's economy. The company has more than 20,000 direct employees and supports over 20,000 indirect jobs through construction, logistics, and professional services.
Through its Career Choice program, Amazon partners with 10 educational institutions in Colorado, prepaying tuition for employees pursuing further education. Since 2019, more than 2,400 employees have participated in these free initiatives.
Amazon's presence in the state includes 11 fulfillment and sortation centers, 10 delivery stations, three rural delivery stations, and 23 Whole Foods Market locations across Colorado. The company has also expanded its sustainable infrastructure with three solar farms and three sites with on-site solar power in the state.
Colorado-based independent sellers sold over 62 million items through Amazon's store, generating an average of $275,000 in annual sales. These small businesses contribute significantly to local economies, with more than 65% employing at least one person within 50 miles of their primary business location.
