Amazon Invests Big in Maryland, Creates Thousands of Jobs

Amazon has invested heavily in Maryland since 2010, contributing over $20 billion to the state's economy. The company employs more than 23,000 full- and part-time workers, supporting an additional 10,000 indirect jobs.

One of Amazon's key initiatives in the state is its Career Choice program, which provides free education and skills training to employees. Since 2019, over 3,300 Maryland employees have participated in these programs, gaining valuable skills that can propel them into new careers.

In addition to workforce development, Amazon has invested heavily in infrastructure across the state. The company has spent more than $20 billion on data center investments, building 13 fulfillment and sortation centers, 15 delivery stations, an air hub, and other facilities. Amazon's retail footprint in Maryland includes 11 Whole Foods Market locations.

Amazon also empowers small businesses in Maryland by providing a platform for them to reach customers worldwide. Over 37 million items were sold by Maryland-based independent sellers through Amazon's store in 2023, with the average seller generating over $250,000 in annual sales.
