Amazon Invests Heavily in Swedish Wind Power Capacity
Amazon has signed four new long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for carbon-free electricity from wind power projects in southern and central Sweden. The agreements will add nearly 200 MW of new carbon-free energy capacity across the country, with all nine Amazon-owned wind power projects in Sweden combined generating enough energy to power over 350,000 households annually.
Amazon's investments in renewable energy are part of its broader Climate Pledge goal to reach net-zero emissions across its entire business by 2040. The company has invested in more than 700 renewable energy projects globally, representing over 40 GW of carbon-free energy capacity, the largest of any company worldwide.
The new PPAs cover four separate wind farm projects: Fageråsen (132 MW), Boarp (17.5 MW), Dållebo (18 MW), and Fågelås (31.5 MW). Three of these projects, Boarp, Dållebo, and Fågelås, are already operational and delivering carbon-free electricity to the Swedish grid.
