Amazon Issues Refunds Directly Under Prime Subscription Settlement
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has clarified that Amazon is issuing refunds directly to customers under the terms of its Prime Subscription Settlement. The settlement, which was announced earlier, marks the first large-scale payout from the FTC's $2.5 billion action against Amazon.
Amazon allegedly used 'subscription traps' that made it difficult for customers to cancel their Prime subscriptions. Under the settlement, Amazon must pay $1.5 billion in consumer refunds.
The FTC stated that Amazon is responsible for administering redress to consumers directly and that no legitimate representative will contact people about refunds in the Amazon matter. Scammers are impersonating the agency, so it's essential to be cautious when receiving emails or messages claiming to be from the FTC.
