Amazon Lags Market, But Dominant Positions Make It Attractive
Amazon's stock has underperformed the market in recent months, with shares gaining just 2.5% over the last three months through July 31.
This is a stark contrast to large-cap stocks, which saw a 3.9% increase during the same period, and growth stocks, which rose by 4.2%.
Despite this lagging performance, Amazon remains a dominant force in both online retail and cloud computing.
The company's market share in cloud computing is substantial, with AWS accounting for 28% of the market as of the first quarter.
AWS has seen rapid growth, with sales increasing by 36.8% year-over-year to $42.2 billion in the second quarter, driving a 63.6% increase in operating income to $16.6 billion.
