Amazon Lands Record-Breaking Bond Sale in Canada
Amazon has made history in the Canadian financial market by selling C$14 billion worth of investment-grade bonds, marking the largest corporate bond offering on record. The sale attracted a significant amount of interest from investors, with orders totaling approximately C$28 billion.
The company launched five tranches of senior unsecured notes across various maturities, ranging from three to 30 years. The yield on the longest tranche is expected to be 1.10 percentage points above government bonds, a slight decrease from initially discussed levels.
Amazon's move comes as it plans to spend around $200 billion this year on data centers, chips, and other infrastructure related to cloud computing and artificial intelligence. The company has borrowed more than $70 billion since the start of 2025, including debt sales in Canada.
