Amazon Launches Pound-Denominated Bonds Amid AI Financing Surge
Amazon.com Inc (AMZN) announced its first issuance of pound-denominated bonds on September 9, 2026, marking a significant step in its capital strategy. The offering is divided into four segments with maturities ranging from 3 to 19 years. Preliminary pricing discussions suggest yields approximately 70 basis points above UK government bonds for the shortest maturity and around 110 basis points higher for the longest.
This bond issuance is part of Amazon's broader strategy to diversify its funding sources and manage its growing debt levels, which have surged due to significant investments in artificial intelligence and other growth initiatives. The company has already set records with its euro bond issuance in March and a six-tranche bond offering in Swiss francs.
Amazon's current Price-to-Sales (P/S) ratio is significantly elevated compared to its historical median, indicating that the market is pricing in high future growth expectations. According to GuruFocus' GF Value, Amazon is currently trading at about 3.7% overvalued compared to its intrinsic value estimate.
