Amazon Loads Up on $17.5B Loan to Fuel AI Ambitions
Amazon has secured a massive $17.5-billion loan facility to fund its rapid expansion into artificial intelligence, further solidifying its position as a leader in the tech industry. The deal was led by Citigroup Global Markets Inc. and involves a consortium of international lenders.
The loan will be used for 'general corporate purposes', which analysts widely interpret as fuel for Amazon's ballooning data-capacity demands driven by AI investments. This move comes on the heels of another significant financial milestone for Amazon earlier this week, where it finalized an unprecedented C$14 billion ($10 billion) investment-grade bond offering in Canada.
Amazon is projected to spend roughly $200 billion on capital expenditures in 2026, primarily on specialized computer chips, massive data center expansions, and power grid positioning. The company had $68 billion worth of long-term debt on its books at the end of December 2025.
