Amazon Locks in Swedish Wind Power for Data Center Expansion
Amazon has secured long-term contracts to purchase electricity from four Swedish wind farms, significantly boosting its renewable energy supply in the region.
The agreements with Eolus AB and EQT AB-owned OX2 AB wind farms will add approximately 200 megawatts to Amazon's operations in Sweden, pushing its contracted Swedish electricity supply above 1 gigawatt once the projects are operational.
This move is part of Amazon's strategy to meet the growing demand for electricity from its data centers and AI workloads. The company has been increasing its global energy deals to support its cloud computing infrastructure.
The power grab highlights Amazon's focus on stable power supply, which is crucial for maintaining its AI infrastructure. As hyperscalers invest in AI, power availability is becoming a limiting factor in adding new capacity.
