Amazon MGM Studios Leans Into LGBTQ+ Representation with Ambitious Slate

Amazon MGM Studios has made significant strides in representing LGBTQ+ characters and stories in its films. The studio has consistently produced inclusive content, including two theatrical releases and four direct-to-Prime Video titles this year. One of these films, Hedda, reimagines the classic play's protagonist as a bisexual Black woman, while another, After the Hunt, features a queer Black protagonist with a nonbinary partner.

While some films, such as Oh. What. Fun. and Maintenance Required, include queer supporting characters but struggle to avoid tropes, others, like Play Dirty and Another Simple Favor, perpetuate harm by revealing a character's identity after their death or using sexual assault as a plot twist.

The studio has several upcoming projects in development, including the sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue and the series finale film for The Summer I Turned Pretty. These films offer opportunities for Amazon MGM Studios to continue pushing the boundaries of LGBTQ+ representation on screen.
