Amazon Ordered to Binding Arbitration with Unionized Workers
A British Columbia labour board has ordered Amazon and its unionized workers to use binding arbitration to settle their first collective agreement.
The decision, made by associate chair Andres Barker, comes after Amazon rejected a mediator's recommendations for arbitration in June.
The board ruled in February that Amazon had violated the provincial labour code by not including unionized workers at its Delta warehouse in scheduled pay increases received elsewhere.
Unifor western regional director Gavin McGarrigle praised the decision, calling out Amazon's 'bad behaviour' in talks and stating that unions build worker power.
