Amazon Ordered to Refund Customer Rs 8,819 After Mattress Order Cancellation
A customer in Himachal Pradesh, India has won a case against Amazon after a mattress order was cancelled and returned. The Kangra District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission directed Amazon to refund Rs 8,819 to the customer, along with Rs 5,000 as compensation and Rs 5,000 towards litigation costs.
The customer, Shubham Patial, had ordered a Wakefit mattress for Rs 9,799 on September 26, 2024. However, due to delayed delivery, he cancelled the order through an OTP on October 7, 2024. Despite multiple follow-ups, Amazon failed to refund the amount.
The commission found that Amazon had failed to rebut the evidence and held it liable for deficiency in service and unfair trade practice. It noted that the failure to refund the money after the product was returned constituted a clear deficiency in service.
