Amazon Pauses Operations with 21 Air After Deadly Cargo Plane Crash in Miami
Amazon has paused its operations with cargo carrier 21 Air after one of its planes crashed at Miami International Airport, killing five people.
The Boeing 767-33A plane, operated by 21 Air, overran Runway 30 on September 6, traveling over 1,300 feet past the runway before hitting two vehicles and a perimeter fence. The two pilots on board survived, but five people in the vehicles were killed.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of the crash, with preliminary findings showing the plane landed too fast and beyond the intended runway zone. A transcript from the cockpit voice recorder revealed one pilot warning the aircraft was going 'too fast' as it approached the Miami runway.
Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said in a statement that the company has decided to pause its operations with 21 Air after reviewing the surrounding circumstances and supporting the investigation. The company expects little to no impact on customers due to this decision.
