Amazon Poised to Join Elite $4 Trillion Club by 2029
Amazon, the world's largest company by revenue, is positioned to reach a market capitalization of at least $4 trillion before 2029. The e-commerce giant has underperformed the broader market over the last five years, but its strengths in cloud infrastructure and e-commerce make it well-suited for AI-related growth.
Amazon's AWS cloud segment grew sales 37% year-over-year to reach $42.2 billion in the second quarter, with AI-related demand driving the unit's strongest growth rate since 2021. The company's North America segment saw revenue increase 16% year-over-year, and total company revenue was up 20% to $200.6 billion in the quarter.
While Amazon's sales growth is accelerating again, its margins tend to be lower than those of other major tech companies due to its heavy focus on e-commerce. However, ongoing advancements in automation and robotics should unlock stronger margins for its e-commerce business.
