Amazon Prime Air Brings Drone Deliveries to Omaha Metro Area
Amazon Prime Air's drone delivery service is expanding its reach to the Omaha metro area in Nebraska. The company announced that residents living within eight miles of its Papillion fulfillment center could be eligible for the service.
The drones use cameras, sensors, and artificial intelligence to navigate and can carry packages weighing up to five pounds. Amazon claims some deliveries could arrive in less than 30 minutes.
Nebraska joins six other states offering Prime Air, including Texas, Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, and Michigan. The company aims to expand the service to nearly 500 cities by the end of 2026.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and launch event was held on Monday morning, attended by local leaders and community partners. Amazon had already conducted pre-launch testing and mapping of the area, with some residents spotting the drones flying around the metro in preparation for today's launch.
