Amazon Prime Air Pilots May Have Considered Aborting Crash Landing in Miami
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the Amazon Prime Air Boeing cargo plane crash in Miami on Sunday. According to NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy, the pilots may have considered aborting the landing before the crash.
Homendy stated that both pilots will be interviewed as part of the investigation and the agency will release the readout of the onboard voice recording in the cockpit.
The data indicates that 30 seconds before the end of the recording, the nose landing gear and right main landing gear touched down at a ground speed of 158 knots (around 181 mph). However, when the brakes were applied, the ground speed was 146 knots (roughly 168 mph).
The left main landing gear touched down 19 seconds before the end of the recording at a ground speed of 134 knots (154 mph). The pilots then released the brakes and increased engine power to go-around thrust values.
