Amazon Quietly Updates Terms to Block Class Action Lawsuits

Amazon has quietly updated its terms and conditions to prevent customers from seeking class action lawsuits against the company. The change was made through an email alerting customers to the update on Friday, which included a new arbitration clause that would resolve disputes outside of court.

The arbitration process would allow Amazon to avoid costly lawsuits and potentially minimize payouts to customers. While customers can still take Amazon to small claims court in certain circumstances, payouts are often limited to a few thousand dollars.

Amazon's move comes as the company has faced growing legal challenges from users over privacy concerns relating to its Alexa and Echo speakers. The company had previously removed similar language in 2021, but it appears to have reinstated it in an effort to shield itself from class action suits.
