Amazon Raises Prices on Echo, Kindle, and Fire TV Devices Amid Global Memory Chip Shortage
Amazon has quietly raised prices on its device lineup, including Echo speakers, Kindles, Fire TV streaming devices, and eero routers. The price hikes range from 10 to 60 percent across various models.
The entry-level gadgets saw the biggest increase, with the Echo Dot rising from $49.99 to $79.99, a 60 percent jump, while the base Kindle went from $109.99 to $149.99.
A global shortage of memory chips is cited as the reason for the price increases. Amazon confirmed this to Fortune, pointing to 'significant increases in memory and storage component costs.'
This trend follows similar moves by other companies, including Apple, which raised prices on iPads, MacBooks, and the Apple TV this summer, and Roku, which bumped its devices by up to $50 in July.
