Amazon Restores Sydney Drinking Water Source
Amazon has partnered with the Australian River Restoration Centre to restore part of the Coxs River catchment in New South Wales, which supplies drinking water to millions of people in Sydney.
The project will cover 14.8 kilometres of degraded waterways upstream of Warragamba Dam and aims to improve water quality and increase water availability by nearly 400 million litres a year for Greater Sydney communities.
The restoration plan targets invasive willows, erosion, and livestock pollution in the upper Coxs River catchment, which has been damaged by decades of land clearing, grazing, and invasive plant growth.
Amazon is investing AUD $20 billion to expand, operate, and maintain data centre infrastructure in Australia from 2025 to 2029, with a goal of becoming water positive in its data centre operations by 2030.
