Amazon Resubmits Killingly Warehouse Plans After Initial Rejection
A proposed Amazon warehouse project in Killingly has resurfaced after an initial application was rejected last month. Ryan Companies, which has built numerous Amazon warehouses nationwide, submitted a new application to build a 1.3 million square-foot facility on August 3.
The original proposal for the $200 million, robot-focused 'first mile' fulfillment center near Interstate 395 was met with resistance from residents and ultimately denied by the town's inland, wetlands and watercourses commission in early July.
The decision hinged on a regulation requiring applicants to exhaust feasible and prudent alternatives. The commission proposed that Ryan Companies investigate alternative designs reducing the building's footprint or using structured parking instead of surface parking to minimize environmental impact.
Austin Stowe, an Amazon spokesperson, stated, 'Tonight we're filing a new application with the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission that reflects the extensive work we've done to address concerns raised throughout this process.'
