Amazon Sees Cloud Revenue Surge on Anthropic Partnership
Elon Musk has backtracked on his previous assertion that Anthropic would not be a leader in AI, admitting instead that it is currently at the forefront. This means that Amazon's cloud business stands to gain significantly from its relationship with Anthropic.
The tech giant invested over $10 billion in Anthropic and has committed to investing up to $33 billion. In return, the start-up will utilize Amazon Web Services as its primary cloud provider, spending an estimated $100 billion or more with the company.
This could have a substantial impact on AWS revenue growth, which was 37% year over year in the last quarter and has an annualized run rate of $169 billion. If Anthropic continues to grow at this pace, it could eventually clear $100 billion in annualized revenue and reach hundreds of billions a year.
Amazon's stake in Anthropic is estimated at over 10% and could be worth around $250 billion if the start-up goes public in a record-breaking IPO later this year. This would provide a significant boost to Amazon's bottom line, but more importantly, it sets a standard for other AI start-ups and Fortune 500 enterprises.
