Amazon Seller Scam Delivers Empty CPU Boxes to PC Repair Store
A New York-based computer repair and custom gaming PC retail store has fallen victim to an alleged Amazon delivery scam. The store, PC Plug, ordered two AMD Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs from third-party seller 'The Tech Group', which had decent ratings but may be fake. Two packages arrived within 72 hours, each containing only the CPU box with no processor inside.
The co-owner of PC Plug stated that they order 90% of their hardware inventory through Amazon, amounting to around $10,000 a month. This is the first time they've received a product with no hardware in it, and it happened twice within three days. They claim this may have occurred up to 10 times over the last five years, with packages arriving damaged or missing components.
The store has security camera footage showing both Amazon packages being opened and found to contain only the CPU boxes. Despite having a good track record with Amazon, the co-owner is concerned that the attention surrounding the incident could put their Amazon account at risk.
