Amazon Slips Amid Consumer Caution
Amazon's stock slipped by approximately 0.5% to $258.72 on Friday afternoon, failing to keep pace with the broader market rebound.
The e-commerce giant reported a 20% jump in second-quarter sales to $200.6 billion and operating income of $27.5 billion, while Amazon Web Services revenue surged 37% to $42.2 billion.
However, this impressive growth comes with a significant price tag: management expects around $220 billion in capital expenditures by 2026 as the company pours resources into AI chips, data centers, and cloud capacity.
This has investors questioning when Amazon's spending will translate to serious cash flow. The stock currently sits 5.15% above its estimated value of $246.06, but still trades at roughly 21 times trailing earnings despite a 20% sales growth rate.
