Amazon has acquired DuckLabs, an Amsterdam-based data analytics company behind the open source analytical database DuckDB. The acquisition gives Amazon's cloud business, AWS, access to resources and talent from DuckLabs' team of over 30 employees.

Despite the deal, DuckDB will remain free and open-source under its current non-profit management. Co-founders Hannes Mühleisen and Mark Raasveldt will continue leading the project alongside their work on data lakehouse DuckLake and the Quack protocol.

According to AWS Vice-President Andy Warfield, the acquisition is a strategic move to empower developers with data tools. 'We've been working closely with the DuckLabs team for the past two years,' he said.
