Amazon Sued for Systemic Discrimination Against Pregnant Workers
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Amazon, alleging that the company discriminated against pregnant workers by denying them basic accommodations and penalizing those who took time off for hospital visits.
The plaintiffs, four former warehouse employees, claim that Amazon's policies have been well-documented in state investigations and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission findings.
Jennifer Hatch, one of the plaintiffs, worked at an Amazon facility in Lancaster, New York, where she was denied a lifting restriction and a sitting break despite her doctor's recommendations due to her high-risk pregnancy.
Hatch was also docked unpaid time off balance and later fired for violating an attendance policy after taking multiple early exits from work due to pregnancy-related abdominal pain exacerbated by standing for long periods at work.
