Amazon Surges 4% as Nordic Data Center Expansion Continues
Amazon (AMZN.US) led the 'Magnificent Seven' tech giants on Friday, rising over 4% as it continued its upward trend. The surge was attributed to Amazon's expansion of its data centers in Nordic countries, where it has signed long-term agreements to purchase electricity from four wind farms in Sweden.
The agreements will add nearly 200 megawatts of power supply and help meet the increasing demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence services. By the time all projects are fully operational, Amazon's total power capacity in Sweden is expected to exceed 1 gigawatt.
This move is part of Amazon's efforts to increase its power procurement and invest in self-built generation capacity as demand for its services grows. In 2025, Amazon became the largest corporate buyer of fossil-free energy in Sweden, with over 700 such projects globally totaling more than 40 gigawatts.
