Amazon Surpasses $3 Trillion Market Cap in Record Time
Amazon has reached a new milestone by becoming the fifth company to join the $3 trillion market capitalization club. This achievement comes just over two years after the company surpassed the $2 trillion mark in June 2024.
The milestone is significant as it indicates that the market continues to reward Amazon's strong fundamentals, according to retail sentiment on Stocktwits. The company's stock has gained more than 24% so far this year, outperforming the S&P 500 and its peers in the $3 trillion market cap club.
Amazon's second-quarter earnings report also played a crucial role in reaching this milestone. The company reported strong top- and bottom-line beats and announced that it expects to spend up to $220 billion in capital expenditure, the highest budget on Wall Street for this year. This aggressive spending is driven by Amazon's focus on bringing online the infrastructure needed to power artificial intelligence and maintain a lead against rival hyperscalers.
Roth Capital noted that Amazon demonstrates the highest AI return on invested capital compared to its peers. The company expects Amazon to earn faster returns on investment as its spending shifts toward cheaper servers.
