Amazon Tops $3 Trillion Market Cap Milestone on Strong AWS Earnings
Amazon has become the fifth publicly traded company to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization, surpassing this milestone in August 2026. The surge in Amazon's stock price was fueled by its strong second-quarter earnings report, which revealed that AWS generated $42.2 billion in revenue, a 36.7% increase year over year.
Investors responded enthusiastically to the earnings announcement, sending shares up more than 15% in a single day, the largest single-day gain in over 14 years, and adding nearly $400 billion to Amazon's market value.
Amazon's management has raised its full-year AI infrastructure spending forecast to approximately $220 billion, signaling a strong commitment to expanding its AI capabilities. This increased investment is expected to have broader implications for the AI ecosystem, potentially benefiting companies that supply infrastructure, components, and specialized hardware.
