Amazon Unveils $4 Billion Nvidia GPU Expansion Plan
Amazon has announced a significant expansion of its partnership with Nvidia, committing to deploy an additional 2 million GPUs across its AWS infrastructure between 2027 and 2028. This follows a prior agreement in March for 1 million chips, which are currently being integrated into AWS facilities this year.
The expanded GPU deployment will include Nvidia's premium Blackwell Ultra, Rubin, and Rubin Ultra GPU architectures, which are designed specifically for AI model training and inference operations. These high-end processors typically cost tens of thousands of dollars each, but enterprise-scale buyers like Amazon can secure volume discounts.
Amazon plans to implement Nvidia's comprehensive physical AI platform throughout its warehouse robotics operations, extending the partnership beyond traditional data center computing applications.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described the arrangement as a 'great partnership', while CFO Colette Kress validated the expanded collaboration during Nvidia's quarterly earnings call. The agreement is seen as strategic for both companies, with Amazon committing to an additional 3 million Nvidia GPUs in total.
