Amazon Unveils Drone Delivery Expansion in South Jersey
Amazon is expanding its drone delivery service, Prime Air, to South Jersey in October. The tech giant plans to deploy drones from its facility at 240 Mantua Grove Road in West Deptford Township, covering a radius of approximately 15 miles. This will enable deliveries throughout nearly all of Mantua Township's jurisdiction northwest of Pittman and the Borough of Wenonah.
The drone operations will be allowed to fly at altitudes below 400 feet from 15 minutes before sunrise until 15 minutes after sunset. Amazon spokesperson Smitha Rao stated that Prime Air currently delivers to customers in locations across the country, with an overwhelmingly positive response from customers using the service.
The expansion comes days after Amazon announced plans to expand its Prime Air service to nearly 500 cities and towns by the end of 2026. The company's drones can deliver items weighing up to five pounds and fitting in a large shoebox. Each delivery costs an additional $2.99 for Amazon Prime customers with orders under $50, while those without a Prime membership will pay $4.99.
