Amazon Unveils Plan for AI-Powered Delivery Station Automation

Amazon is reportedly planning to fully automate its delivery stations using artificial intelligence and robotics as part of an initiative called Project Tetromino. The plan aims to streamline the sorting and staging of packages before they are loaded onto delivery vans.

A Business Insider report reveals that Amazon has planned a capital investment of over $530 million by 2029, with an initial pilot program in 2028 estimated at $103 million. This would be followed by the launch of five additional sites in 2029, each costing around $85 million, and 10 more locations by 2030.

The highly automated setup is projected to process packages at roughly 2.5 times the rate of Amazon's current delivery station designs. The internal planning document suggests that a key piece of the Tetromino technological puzzle might come from Boxbot, an AI and supply chain robotics startup.

A spokesperson for Amazon confirmed the company's ongoing commitment to testing new technologies that enhance employee safety and the overall customer experience, but disputed the accuracy of the financial projections and timelines.
