Amazon Web Services Acquires DuckLabs and Its Open-Source Analytical Database DuckDB
DuckLabs, the Amsterdam-based company behind the open-source analytical database DuckDB, has announced that it will be joining Amazon Web Services (AWS). This move is expected to become effective early September 2026 and aims to expand the reach of DuckDB-powered data services while preserving the project's open-source nature.
The partnership between DuckLabs and AWS began in early 2025 with collaboration on projects such as DuckDB support for Amazon S3 Tables and Amazon SageMaker Lakehouse. This work demonstrated how DuckDB's embedded analytical capabilities can support a broader generation of data products and services.
Hannes Mühleisen, co-founder and CEO at DuckLabs, stated that joining AWS will give the team the opportunity to build for a much larger audience while continuing to invest in the open-source ecosystem around and including DuckDB.
