Amazon's AI Bond Sale Tests Debt Market Appetite
Amazon's recent bond sale has sent a mixed signal to investors about their appetite for debt in the current market. The e-commerce giant raised $4.25 billion, or roughly $5.76 billion, in its first sterling bond offering.
The company split the financing across four tranches maturing in three, six, 12 and 19 years, with yields ranging from approximately 5.2% to 6.7%. Investor orders reached about 2.5 times the amount available, according to LSEG's IFR.
This solid demand is notable, but noticeably cooler than the roughly fivefold coverage Alphabet secured for its sterling deal in February. Amazon expects capital expenditures to reach approximately $220 billion in 2026 as it races to expand AWS infrastructure and AI computing capacity.
