Amazon's AI Gap: Why the Retail Giant Falls Short in Agentic Commerce
Amazon's dominance in online sales may be unchallenged, but when it comes to AI commerce, the company ranks significantly lower in Digital Commerce 360's latest rankings.
The Top 1000 Database primarily tracks online merchants' annual ecommerce sales, conversion, growth, and vendor use. However, a new ranking system has been added, which evaluates online retailers based on their AI-related criteria, including how accessible their catalog data is to third-party AI agents and the diversity of traffic they get from third-party AI sources.
Amazon ranks No. 158 in this new AI Commerce Rankings, while Walmart, ranked No. 2 in the Top 1000, comes in at No. 37. Scot Wingo, founder and CEO at ReFiBuy, explained that Amazon's decision to limit third-party access to its catalog data may be a contributing factor.
According to Wingo, 'They've said, 'We don't want bots. We're not gonna do any of these things,' so all four doors are closed, and therefore they've lost their number one spot in this.'
