Amazon's AI Spending Strategy Wins Over Skeptical Investors
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's recent earnings call helped alleviate investor concerns about the tech giant's massive AI infrastructure spending. According to Jim Cramer, Wall Street was skeptical of how megacap tech companies were allocating funds for their AI investments.
Jassy's presentation provided clarity on Amazon's upfront AI costs, which go towards building data centers and equipping them with servers and networking infrastructure. He explained that these initial investments allow the company to generate significant revenue right away, and then monetize its data centers for over 30 years without incurring additional startup capital.
Cramer compared Amazon's AI strategy favorably to those of other tech peers, noting that Microsoft has already begun to monetize its AI investments through Azure and Copilot. The comments came after Jassy raised his capex budget from $200B to $220B, which was met with a stock price increase of 4.58% on Monday.
