Amazon's Angel Cop: A Dated Anime With One of the Worst Dubs Ever
Anime fans who rely on Amazon Prime Video for their fix may be in for a disappointment with Angel Cop, an OVA series from the late 80s. The show's setting is based on an alternate timeline where Japan never experienced its economic downturn and became a world superpower instead. This results in a rise of terrorism that only the elite Special Security Force can contain.
The series follows Angel, one of the top officers on the force, as she tries to shut down the terrorist group Red May with the help of her team. However, the show takes a turn for the worse when it reveals the true villain - and then another one after that - but the real villain is left unshown in the American version due to sensitive content.
The animation may have been sparse by today's standards, but it makes up for it with its graphic violence. Gunshots result in exploding heads and blood flies everywhere, yet Angel Cop avoids fanservice altogether. However, this lack of quality writing is a major drawback, especially considering the show's dated material.
The real kicker is the dub itself, which is widely regarded as one of the worst in anime history. The voice acting is subpar, with lines that sound like they were read from a script without any attention to detail.
