Amazon's Anthropic Stake Could Be Worth Over $400 Billion
Amazon's investment in AI start-up Anthropic has proven to be a lucrative one. The tech giant invested $8 billion in the company in 2024 and an additional $5 billion this year, giving it a reported 21% stake in the business.
The valuation of Anthropic has been on the rise, with secondary markets pricing the company at $1.2 trillion in early July. More recent estimates put its value at $2 trillion or more.
If Anthropic achieves this valuation, Amazon's stake would be worth approximately $420 billion. This is based on a calculation using the $965 billion valuation from May 2026 and the company's convertible notes and nonvoting preferred stock.
Amazon's executive chairman Jeff Bezos and CEO Andy Jassy may face pressure to divest some of their Anthropic shares, given the company's rapid growth. However, they could also realize a significant profit if they hold on to their investment.
