Amazon's Community Donations Program Takes Off Under Local Leader
Rod Sniadecki, a former South Bend City Council member and local Amazon manager, has developed a community donations program at the Amazon fulfillment center near the South Bend Airport.
The program, which has been in place for three years, collects returned or damaged items that would otherwise be discarded. These items are then donated to local charities, including churches, veterans organizations, pet refuges, and others that serve the underprivileged in South Bend.
The program has grown significantly, with hundreds to thousands of pounds of goods being donated each week. The donations include essential items such as over-the-counter medications, clothing, shoes, toiletries, food staples, laundry detergents, and other products that people might not be able to afford otherwise.
Sniadecki gives credit to Amazon for adopting his donation proposal three years ago and taking an interest in South Bend's neediest residents. The program has been so successful that it has inspired other Amazon fulfillment sites to start similar initiatives.
