Amazon's Gilroy Data Center Sparks Community Concerns

The group, Americans for Transparency, led by Georgine Scott-Codiga, has filed a formal demand of violations with the city of Gilroy, citing alleged violations of the California Subdivision Map Act.

The data center, which is being built on land purchased by Amazon Data Services, has been criticized for its environmental impact and excessive water usage. The group also claims that the project will not create many jobs and that residents are opposed to it.

City officials have responded to the allegations, stating that they have investigated the matter and found no violation of the Map Act. They claim that a lot line adjustment made in 2020 did not create any new parcels, as Scott-Codiga's letter claims.
