Amazon's Jassy Wins Over Wall Street With AI Spending Pitch
CNBC's Jim Cramer credits Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's explanation of the company's AI spending strategy for changing Wall Street's view on Big Tech's multibillion-dollar investments.
Jassy's presentation during the latest earnings call provided clarity on how these investments are expected to produce long-term cash flow, addressing months of investor skepticism.
He said Amazon's upfront AI investments go towards building data centers and equipping them with servers and networking infrastructure. 'Once a data center opens with servers plugged in, we start generating significant revenue right away and then get to monetize these data centers for 30-plus years without having to spend that startup capital again,' Jassy explained.
Cramer contrasted Amazon's strategy with those of its technology peers, Alphabet and Microsoft. He said Alphabet raised its capital spending guidance but failed to clearly explain how it would translate into future returns, while Meta Platforms Inc. has yet to provide a clear plan for monetizing its expanding AI infrastructure investments.
