Amazon's Monopoly Grip on Sellers Tightens
Amazon's dominance over online marketplaces has led to allegations of monopolistic practices and abuse of sellers. Jack Nekhala, a seller who lost access to Amazon's platform in 2016, experienced firsthand the company's aggressive tactics.
Nekhala's product, the Bed Scrunchie, was removed from Amazon without explanation. He was later contacted by a woman claiming to have information about his account, which only an Amazon employee would know, and was offered a chance to restore his access for a fee.
This is just one example of the ways in which Amazon uses its control over online marketplaces to exploit sellers. The company charges high fees, takes up to 50% of every dollar earned by sellers, and uses tactics such as pay-per-click advertisements to crowd out organic search results.
Amazon's policies have led to a 'cash flow capture' that delays payments to sellers for weeks or even months after delivery. This has caused chaos for sellers who rely on timely payment to operate their businesses.
