Amazon's Robotaxi Launch Puts Company Head-to-Head with Waymo and Tesla
Amazon's Zoox unit has launched fully autonomous vehicles on public roads in San Francisco, California. This marks a significant step for the company, which is expanding its presence in the self-driving car market.
The move puts Amazon in direct competition with Alphabet's Waymo and Tesla, both of which are also testing robotaxi services in the city. Zoox's vehicles, designed to operate without human drivers, have been driven over 3 million miles and carried nearly 1 million passengers, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
Zoox's robotaxis are built with no steering wheel or pedals and can travel in any direction using four-wheel steering and an active suspension system. The company has already cleared regulatory hurdles and is allowed to operate up to 5,000 vehicles under specific conditions.
Analysts tracking Amazon stock forecast revenue to increase from $717 billion in 2025 to $1.38 trillion in 2030, with adjusted earnings expected to expand from $7.17 per share to $19 per share.
