Amazon's Stock Dips as Company Invests Big in Prime Video and Student Rewards
Amazon's stock price slipped by 0.33% on Friday despite the company announcing new investments in its Prime Video service and introducing a student rewards program for AWS users.
The e-commerce giant plans to spend over $2 billion on local original content and live sports in Latin America from 2027 through 2030, aiming to more than double its Local Originals in the region. The company will release over 25 new local titles in 2027 alone and add a new home for Mexico's national soccer team.
AWS is also launching Student Rewards on AWS Builder Center, which allows verified university students to earn up to $579 in AWS resources, including $30 in AWS credits, a year of premium Skill Builder access, and an AWS Certification exam voucher. This program represents over $500 million in support for students worldwide.
