AMD Surpasses Nvidia in Sales Charts Amid Graphics Card Shortage
The graphics card market is witnessing a significant shift in favor of AMD GPUs. According to Amazon's best-selling GPU list, the top spot is held by the Radeon RX 9070 XT, priced at $749, which is higher than its launch MSRP of $599. This card is followed closely by several other AMD models, including an Asus version of the 9070 XT and an Asrock 9070.
Nvidia also holds four positions in the chart with its RTX 5070, RTX 5060 Ti, and two RTX 5080 models. However, what's striking is that AMD cards are generally cheaper than their Nvidia counterparts, a factor that may be contributing to their popularity.
In Germany, the situation is even more favorable for AMD. Mindfactory data shows that the company accounts for nearly 56% of all GPUs sold over the last week, with Nvidia holding around 40%. The RX 9070 XT is once again the most popular card, followed by the RX 9060.
It's worth noting that Mindfactory has a reputation for favoring AMD and often offers promotions and discounts on its products. However, this doesn't entirely explain the trend, as availability also seems to be playing a role. On Amazon, there are three AMD cards in stock, while Nvidia only has one available, a Gigabyte RTX 5080 for $1,599.
The shift towards AMD is not universal, however. In the Steam survey GPU chart, Nvidia still dominates with over 73% of participants using its GPUs, compared to just 18.6% for AMD.
